The scene

Capita Travel & Events, a division of the 73000+ employee Capita Group, needed to take their digital strategy to the next level in the areas of marketing and portal service provision to UK corporates.

Their marketing and sales web presence was dispersed across a number of technologies, behind their latest brand and failing to generate significant sales leads. They had a successful travel booking portal solution, but needed to incorporate a new UX in line with innovative ‘smarter travel’ model.

The story

We were selected for our track record in B2B lead generation, digital transformation, innovative UX approach and integration expertise.

We engaged in two simultaneous projects – the new marketing website and a completely new version of the travel booking portal. The marketing website has a new responsive delivery of their ‘angled’ brand with parallax effects, whilst retaining full content manageability of the site. The fundamental structure and content were improved to generate more leads.

Our user experience work on the new portal incorporated innovative new behavioral psychology concepts with ease of use for travel booking. The solution was prototyped, tested and iterated with varied Capita clients as well as the implementation managers who would configure for each customer.

The technical transformation

The solutions were delivered via new website builds in Optimizely 9.2, with the marketing site hosted in Azure on the Optimizely DXC.

Diverse technical components have been merged and Optimizely serves as a lead data repository. Our technical journey on the portal has involved extensive collaboration and close working with Capita’s I.T. team, enabling the portal to integrate with both their bespoke .NET profile management tool, CRM, and a host of external reporting, travel data and authentication services. The Capita project management and I.T. teams have experienced our ‘working closer’ methodology. Both Appius and Capita development teams feel like they are working as a single entity delivering and innovating for the rest of the Capita business and its clients.

The new journey

The new journey continues to provide the innovations and high value travel planning and information tools that support Capita's ongoing success in being selected for corporate travel, events and meetings solutions.

Optimizely has already been leveraged for its great strengths in delivering great UX and client and company level configuration and branding capabilities. New phases of work will make fuller use of Optimizely personalisation and digital marketing campaign features.

Appius have always gone the extra mile

Capita have worked with Appius on the design and development of our integral travel and events booking portal. Appius have demonstrated excellent technical knowledge of the Optimizely environment and the ability to integrate this successfully with a number of internal and external data feeds. They have worked closely to collaborate with our internal development team and have always gone the extra mile to deliver releases on time around key events and commitments. The UI was developed by the Appius team informed by their user testing process and has been well received by our customers and at a recent industry event. We are looking forward to working with Appius on the next phase of improvements.
