    What is Responsive Design?

Responsive Design is the next major evolution in web design, allowing a single website to automatically detect what device it is being viewed on, and re-adjust its layout for that devices screen.

It allows for websites to retain their design and impact across a number of devices, responding to the user and delivering them the best experience – whether that is on mobile, tablet, laptop or desktop.

    How does it work?

Using what’s known as Media Queries within CSS3, responsive design utilises fluid grids and flexible images to re-organise the content on a page to fit the parameters of the screen it’s being viewed on.

This then means that a single source of content is easy to read across a wide range of browsers and devices, with a minimum amount of scrolling or resizing needed, and without the development of several versions of your website for different devices.

Why do I need a Responsive Design website?

In 2010, research by Morgan Stanley and Gartner stated that the level of mobile internet browsing would exceed desktop browsing within 3-5 years. As mobile phones and tablets develop further, and the technology available to us that allows us to the access information on the web broadens, it’s important to make sure that your content is easily accessible – whatever device a user is viewing it on.

Responsive Design future-proofs your website, allowing is to resize itself to the screen it’s being viewed on, and providing a much better user experience for mobile devices such as phones and tablets.

A responsive site allows you to stay a step ahead of latest technological advancements, without having to make wholesale changes to your site each time a new device is released.
